Reese Witherspoon announces that ‘Big Little Lies’ will return for Season 3 with its original author on board.
Reese Witherspoon has provided more details about “Big Little Lies” Season 3.
The actress, alongside co-star Nicole Kidman, has been eagerly anticipating new material from Liane Moriarty, the New York Times bestselling author of “Big Little Lies.” Speaking to E! News, Witherspoon shared, “We’re waiting for Liane Moriarty. She’s going to be turning in something very soon.
” The 48-year-old made these remarks while on the red carpet at her media company Hello Sunshine’s second annual Shine Away conference on Saturday. “We’re returning to the original author and revisiting the original characters.”
She continued, “It’s exciting because I think the kids are probably a bit older now, which could bring in another dynamic. I haven’t read it yet, though, so I don’t know for sure.”
Both stars have already confirmed that a third season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama series is in development.

Big Little Lies’ Season 3: What We Know
In November, Nicole Kidman, 57, announced that a third season is on the way during a Q&A session and later shared with Variety that she and Reese Witherspoon are “texting every day” about it. “There’s a timeline, and we’re making it happen,” she added. Both Kidman and Witherspoon serve as producers on the series.
During a conversation with Vanity Fair in June, Kidman confirmed that Season 3 is progressing “fast and furious” but playfully acknowledged her own excitement to discuss the upcoming season.
“We need to keep quiet,” Kidman remarked. “There’s this idea that you should never discuss something until it’s completed. Talking about it gives you a dopamine rush, making you feel like you’ve already accomplished it.”
The first season, which premiered in 2017, revolved around a mysterious murder and the group of women involved in the investigation. The cast included Witherspoon, Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, and Laura Dern.
Initially presented as a one-season story, the show won the Emmy for Best Limited Series but returned in 2019 for a second season that explored the aftermath of the murder. Meryl Streep joined the cast for Season 2.
Elle Woods is set to return in a Reese Witherspoon-produced prequel to ‘Legally Blonde’ on Amazon.
In earlier interviews, Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley expressed their hopes for a third season.
“We have such a deep love for each other and would have the time of our lives reuniting. We adore our characters,” Dern shared with Entertainment Weekly in February.
